Grief
Loss
“Grief is not a problem to be solved, but an experience to be witnessed.”
How can our conversations be helpful?
Grief shows up in different forms: sadness, despair, panic, anger, physical pain, worry or hopelessness. Sometimes it’s really big and you feel everything all at once, sometimes it’s more subtle and might go almost unnoticed. Sometimes you know that it will come, sometimes it surprises and hijacks you when you least experience it.
In our conversations, we will take our time to explore with compassion and curiosity how grief shows up in your life. IFS (Internal Family Systems/Parts work) is a beautiful way to understand the grieving process and will help you to make sense of all the different feelings/sensations and thoughts that you have.
My goal is not to help you ‘get over it’, but rather to help you become comfortable and familiar with the expressions of your grief and sorrow so that you can witness and metabolize it when it shows up. We will talk, but we will also use somatic practices to find the grief in your body.
We will also explore beliefs that you hold around grief: Is there an end date to your sadness? Should you be crying all the time or be stoic and strong? Are you supposed to find ‘closure’ at some point? Are you allowed to experience joyful moments while you are grieving?
Eventually, a knowing and a path will emerge from within you: maybe you find a different way of connection (rituals, journaling, connecting through movement and/or music), maybe you have witnessed and integrated the experience to find calmness. I will be on your side to hold space for you and your emotions so that clarity and wisdom can be seen.
