Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS)
in Carmel, Indiana
Is IFS for me?
I fight with myself a lot.
In IFS, we talk about two parts or perspectives in you, that have different strategies to help or protect. We can then explore each part or perspectives in more detail to learn about the underlying fears and hopes.
I can’t stop procrastinating.
IFS might consider this part a ‘protector’ because it wants to prevent you from failing by not trying in the first place. We can then explore the past experiences that led to this protective strategy with compassion.
I know I shouldn’t yell, but sometimes it just comes out.
In IFS, we might call a yelling part a ‘firefighter’ because it comes to the rescue when your nervous system is really activated or feels threatened. Now we can be curious how this part learned to protect you in this way.
I don’t want to be so critical of myself and have more compassion instead.
Many critical parts believe that they are actually motivating you to get better. Helping those parts understand that their intention is good, but the strategy actually is ineffective would be part of our work.
I want to heal the trauma I carry, and I want more than just talk-therapy.
IFS is an evidence based model to heal trauma. Parts language creates more awareness and understanding of the otherwise unconscious protective patterns of the system which can make healing possible.
I struggle with addiction and want a compassionate approach to change.
In IFS therapy, we are looking for the underlying pain or trauma that keeps the addiction necessary and alive. Once you heal the pain, other options become available.
I am neurodivergent, is IFS a good fit for me?
Yes, IFS is a great fit if you live on the spectrum of neurodiversity. Parts language allows for a non-pathological approach to presenting issues, we can explore with curiosity and compassion.
IFS is an evidence-based model of therapy that views your mind as a system of different ‘parts”, all sharing the same body. The goal of IFS therapy is to help you notice your parts, ‘befriend’ them and understand their purpose and intentions. In our conversations, we will be curious and compassionate towards the things you want to change in your life. You might discover that a current ‘problematic’ coping skill helped you to get through a really difficult time of your life. You might have a better understanding and compassion for yourself, instead of constantly criticizing and judging yourself for your shortcomings.
IFS Therapy is used for trauma and PTSD, anxiety and panic, depression, relationship struggles as well as addiction and substance use.
As a Certified IFS Therapist registered with the official IFS Institute, I have undergone rigorous training to safely guide clients through deep inner parts work and the healing process.
